How to use it
- 1 Start typing. Press / to insert a heading, list, table, code block, image, equation or a live Workbook block, or to read the text off a screenshot.
- 2 Give a checkbox a scheduled date and an importance level, and it appears on your Kanban board, Task Calendar and Focus Board.
- 3 Select text to link it, either to a URL or to another page in your workspace.
- 4 Everything autosaves as you type, so there is no save button. Export to PDF when you need to send it on.
Frequently asked questions
Where are my notes stored?
In your browser, using IndexedDB. They stay on your machine and are never uploaded unless you choose to turn on cloud sync.
Do my notes work offline?
Yes. KontrolRoom is offline-first, so writing, editing and searching all work with no connection.
Can I add tasks to my notes?
Yes, and that is the point of them. Checkboxes can carry a scheduled date and an importance level, and every task you write is picked up by the Kanban board, Task Calendar and Focus Board. There is one underlying document, so you can edit it from wherever you are.
Can I do math inside a note?
Yes. Type / and insert a Workbook block anywhere in a note. It is a full calculating notepad embedded right in the page, live results as you type, named variables, and currency and unit conversion, without switching to another tool.
What else can I put in a note besides text?
Images, YouTube embeds, file attachments, tables, math equations and a live Workbook block for calculations right inside the page. You can also link a selection to another page in your workspace, not just a URL.
Can I pull text out of a screenshot inside a note?
Yes. Type / and choose Image to text, then pick an image, and the words land in the note ready to edit. Recognition runs on your own machine in any of 18 languages, so the image itself is never uploaded. It is the same engine as the standalone OCR block, without leaving what you are writing.
Do I need to sign up?
No. There is no account and no sign-in. Open it and start writing.
